How to start and stop the VMware 2 server For Windows XP
Unlike VMware Server 1, VMware Server 2 is set up to run all of the time and is a resource hog on development machines that only need the virtual machines every once in a while.
I created the following batch files to start and stop the services.
If you want to run them from the Start-Run prompt, then stick them in the \Windows directory. I stuck them in the \Program Files\vmware\VMware Server directory and created shortcuts in my VMware menu.
VMware2Start.bat
net start "VMware Authorization Service"
net start "VMware DHCP Service"
net start "VMware Host Agent"
net start "VMware NAT Service"
net start "VMware Server Web Access"
VMware2Stop.bat
net stop "VMware Host Agent"
net stop "VMware Authorization Service"
net stop "VMware DHCP Service"
net stop "VMware NAT Service"
net stop "VMware Server Web Access"
Remember to go into Control Panel - Administrative Tools - Services and set the VMware processes to Manual.
